Individual Pledge

Rhode Island Interfaith Power & Light has a simple goal: to encourage faith-based stewardship of Creation by promoting energy conservation, energy efficiency, and clean, renewable energy production. This ministry intends to protect the earth’s atmosphere and its ecosystems, safeguard public health, and ensure sufficient, sustainable and affordable energy for all.

I pledge, together with other members of RI-IPL to increase my awareness of global climate change and to engage in one or more of the actions below [please check action(s)]

o Stay current with information about the science of climate change and the human role in such change, as it evolves.

o Conduct an energy audit of my home to identify opportunities for energy conservation, increased efficiency, and financial savings.

o Replace one or more old appliances with a new Energy Star certified appliance(s).

o Begin the process of replacing all incandescent light bulbs in my home with energy-saving compact fluorescents.

o Support the development of renewable energy sources by purchasing “green power” from my utility, installing solar panels, contributing to a wind turbine fund, or using other renewable energy sources in place of fossil fuels.

o Purchase carbon credits to offset the CO2 emissions from my air travel.

o Purchase a fuel-efficient vehicle (40+ mpg) and/or use more public transportation or alternative transportation.

o Analyze my “carbon footprint” and begin to reduce and offset my CO2 emissions with the goal of becoming a carbon-neutral household.

o Communicate with my elected representatives on a local, state and national level to ask for their support for public policies and/or in other ways support policies that help solve the problem of global climate change.

o Join a discussion group to work with others to avert a climate crisis.

o Be on a RI-IPL email “Action & Information Alert” list to receive notice of actions, events, etc. on climate change.

o Make some financial or in-kind donation of time or assistance to RI-IPL.
